 ACE: Attitude Controls Everything

Every single day you wake up and you can control ONE thing—your attitude. Your attitude affects how you treat you family, friends, coworkers, and strangers. It affects your focus at work, your ability to problem solve and multitask, and your time management. It affects how you feel about yourself, your level of confidence, and your anxiety. And it certainly affects your nutritional choices and the quality of
your exercise (or lack thereof).


Your attitude has an enormous impact on every aspect of your life and they are the starting point in which every chain reaction happens. This chain reaction can be visualized through the below flow chart of your actions, results, and your lifestyle:

Now, the problem here is that most people fail to identify attitude as the fundamental, critical starting point in getting anything done. They jump straight to some aspect of their lifestyle that needs 2B changed. This puts the cart before the horse. Without a change in attitude, there is no way you can change any significant aspect of your life. Attitude is the root cause of all that happens to us, good or bad.


For example, start to look at it like this—you’re sick and tired of not having energy and feeling tired and lethargic all the time (sound familiar?). You’re fed up with feeling sluggish. So to change this lifestyle, you have to change your results. The results are likely poor quality of sleep, lack of proper nutrition, not enough exercise, too much stress at work, etc… But you can’t change these results without some behavior change and specific actions. Those actions are going to bed at a consistent time, packing healthy snacks that you can eat while at work and traveling, scheduling exercise into your daily planner, and managing your time better at work.


This is where you may think you're home free. After all, it’s all mapped out above, right? All you have to do is do the things in the preceding paragraph and you’ll be on the fast track to a better life. With the necessary actions this clearly defined, there is no way you can fail. But focusing exclusively on these actions almost always leads to short-term success and consequential replase.  


But you are different.


Lifestyle, Results, and Actions won’t happen by themselves—I promise! It has to start and end with ATTITUDE. Unless you have a fundamental change of attitude, you’ll never be able to embrace the actions to yield the results that will drive your new lifestyle.

If you don’t believe me by now, think about that person you know who is chronically negative (c’mon, we all know someone like this). They’re no fun and no one wants 2B around them. They suck the life out of the room the moment they walk in. Not only does their negative attitude affect their own actions—it seeks to bring down the attitude of others. Don’t let it. These people are like leeches and they feed on negative energy. But while these people are preoccupied with finding excuses, you’re finding solutions. And while they’re finding others to blame for their personal mistakes, you’re accepting responsibility for your controllable actions. Focus your energy on creating a successful future.


Positive energy is contagious…people want 2B around others with great positive energy. And one important thing that you’ll learn in life is, although you have absolute and total control of your own attitude; it behooves you to form relationships with those that share a similar positive attitude, because no matter how hard you try, no one can be happy and positive all the time. We all fall prey to negativity and self-pity. Remember, it’s not what you do some of the time; it’s what you do MOST of the time that matters. And I can guarantee you, if you focus on getting your attitude right most of the time; you’re going to make the most out of your life.
